Just a picture I want to share. Everything has to have it’s order here in Japan:

Last weekend I joined the masses and climbed Mt. Fuji (3776m). Even though I’ve never seen so many people on a mountain before, it was more exhausting than I thought, and I suffered quite a bit of altitude sickness (headache, nausea). Unfortunately I did not get a good view, because of clouds, but still it was a great experience! Here are the photos:
Some pictures from Tokyo plus one from Kobe / Rokko Island.
Here are some fotos from my short trip to Jeju Island, between South Korean and Japan. This island is a very popular holiday destination in Korea, and it has some beautiful nature: crystal clear waterfalls, nice beaches and a volcanic mountain: “Halla-san” (1950m), the highest peak in South Korea. Of course i had to climb it, together with thousands of highly equipped Koreans who showed off their latest and greatest trekking gear on a very well paved highway to the top. Anyhow we had a great relaxing time on the island.
Here are some pictures from the Cherry Blossom (“Sakura”) season in Osaka/Japan. The cherry blossom viewing celebration (“Hanami”) is mostly a reason for masses of Japanese to get drunk under the white blooming trees, while appreciating the short-lasting beauty of the fragile flowers.
Since they killed KScope i had to search for another editor which suited my needs. KScope was a great KDE based source-editor with very good code C/C++ code cross-referencing and it was able to handle large projects like the linux kernel with about 20.000 files. Unfortunately KScope was “lost” during the KDE4 transition, it seems mostly due to the KDE / Kate developers not caring enough to keep it supported. It’s a shame actually, and one of the examples where open-source didn’t work well…
Most other IDE’s just can’t handle projects of this size well and slow down too much or crash when building the symbol cross-references. It seems most kernel developers still use vi or Emacs, but i want something more visual. Kate just keeps getting worse, and misses some small features which i need to work efficiently, like a good integrated ‘Find in files’ function and symbol cross-references.
After trying a lot of different editors and IDEs i finally found Geany – which it can do almost everything i want from an editor, while still being lean, fast and efficient. It’s GTK2 based and not KDE, but who cares? Allthough it does not cross-reference all symbols for the whole kernel, it does so for all opened files, and has a good integrated ‘Find in files’ function, so this is usually enough for working on drivers. It’s a good compromise between a full-featured, “heavy” IDE and a fast text-editor.
Anyhow i still want my KScope back…
I spent last weekend in Seoul. It’s the world’s second largest metropolitan area with about 20 million people and life here is really fast and high-tech. But nice people, beautiful girls and great food make it very enjoyable at the same time. Anyhow i was glad to have a break from Japan.
With about ten years delay i finally also decided to join the web blogging revolution and set up my own blog. I am sick of my manual kind-of blog in my wiki. I need a better system for managing my photos. I also want to be Web 2.0!
And i have to say WordPress really is a cool piece of software!
